‘GIRLS HAVE UNENDING LIST OF SHOPPING AGENDA DURING PUJAS’ – MISHTI

Indrani Chakraborty or more famously Mishti from The great Showman Subhash Ghai’s Kaanchi, is now a household name and is being known as the upcoming most chulbuli actress of Bollywood. However, this Garia born girl from Kolkata is still bubbly in her heart as regards to her interactions with others. Though she made her Bollywood debut with Subhash Ghai’s film Kaanchi: The Unbreakable and her Telegu debut with Nithiin-A. Karunakaran film Chinnadana Nee Kosam, she was also featured in lead role in a Bengali movie called ‘Porichoi’ acting along with the Tollywood’s (Kolkata) one and only Prosenjit Chatterjee or Bumbada. Actress Mishti Chakraborty talks to TNI Representative D. Prasun about her journey and her future in this exclusive interview with timesofnorth.IN.

TNI: Kaanchi was an average hit as far as the box office records are concerned. However, you were the best thing in Kaanchi and had got huge accolades, so why is it taken so long for your second Bollywood appearance?

Mishti: Immediately after ‘Kaanchi’ I got busy with my Telugu move. More than that I guess I was not really in a hurry. I wanted to wait and choose carefully.

TNI: From Indrani to Misti, is it all because of the preference of letter ‘M’ for Subhash Ghai or it’s another numerology story?

Mishti: Well, when I was chosen for ‘Kaanchi’ I was just a student, and had no plans for Bollywood. I was completely ignorant about the film industry. The truth of the story is that it’s not Mishti from Indrani, rather it’s the other way round i.e. Indrani from Misti. Mishti was the first name that was given to me when I was born. All my friends, neighbors and relatives will only recognize me by the name of Mishti. Indrani was the name that was given while I attended School. You must be aware that Bengalis are always popular by their nick names. Honestly, yes Subhas ji was a little happy knowing that I have a name starting with M.

TNI: One of the interesting things in your career till now is that 3 films and all are in different languages. How do you explain that?

Mishti: It’s all about the opportunities that come your way. I think film making is an art. Language is just the medium. I have been lucky to explore such diverse opportunities, languages and cultures.

TNI: Tell something about your experience with Director Rupali Guha in Tollygunj.

Mishti:  Ohh! Working in ‘Porichoi’ was like being with family. Rupali Mam was too doting and treated me like her child during the entire shoot. It was just awesome.

TNI: And your experience with BumbaDa.

Mishti:  Who can forget the experience of working with superstar Prasenjit Chatterjee? It was something that I did not even dare to dream. Mr. Chatterjee was playing my father in the movie and indeed we bonded so well and he made me so comfortable that was no need to act. It was as natural as being with my own father.

TNI: Please detail your experience in ‘Chinnadana Nee Kosam’ especially for a pure Kolkata bred Garia Girl?

Mishti:  Frankly I was scared in the beginning an alien language for me, new people, different environment. I didn’t have any clue about how to deal with it. However, being a spontaneous person I just decided to do it and trust me, it was one of my best decisions in my life. Telugu film industry is the second largest film industry in our country after Bollywood. It’s extremely professional and organized with such a lovely audience of course. They all make u feel like a princess.

TNI: Coming back to Bollywood, according to the reports you are hugely excited about your second flick “Great Grand Masti” from the Bollywood Masti series. Please detail briefly about the film.

Mishti:  Oh yes. It’s my good luck indeed to be able to work with another legendary Director as Indra Kumarji after the legendary Subhashji. I can’t talk much about it now but as declared “Great Grand Masti” is on the lines of the first MASTI. It has tripled the masti (fun) but less of vulgarity.

TNI: What are next South Indian and Bengali movies in your pipeline?

Mishti:  Well, as of now, I have three Telugu and two Hindi movies in pipeline. I can’t reveal the details now. For Bengali, I have many offers but still waiting for the best. I have not yet decided to do anything in Bengali.

TNI: On a social note, Durga Puja is knocking the door. As a Bong Babe, what’s in your shopping list this year?

Mishti:  Ohh! There can’t be any list for a girl’s shopping agenda. It’s always unending.

TNI: And tell about your personal Durga Puja Style Statement this season.

Mishti:  Style is something absolutely personal to an individual. For me, I always like to keep it simple. Overdoing is just not my cup of tea. However, Durga Puja is one occasion when I like to go a bit traditional. I might try some saree on Mahastami and indo western on other days.
